Cholestrol information

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a chemical compound that is naturally produced by the body and is structurally a combination of lipid (fat) and steroid. Cholesterol is a building block for cell membranes and for hormones like estrogen and testosterone. About 80% of the body's cholesterol is produced by the liver, while the rest comes from our diet. The main sources of dietary cholesterol are meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. Organ meats, such as liver, are especially high in cholesterol content, while foods of plant origin contain no cholesterol. After a meal, dietary cholesterol is absorbed from the intestine and stored in the liver. The liver is able to regulate cholesterol levels in the blood stream and can secrete cholesterol if it is needed by the body.

What are LDL and HDL cholesterol?

LDL cholesterol is called "bad" cholesterol, because elevated levels of LDL cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. LDL lipoprotein deposits cholesterol along the inside of artery walls, causing the formation of a hard, thick substance called cholesterol plaque. Over time, cholesterol plaque causes thickening of the artery walls and narrowing of the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis, which decreases blood flow through the narrowed area.

HDL cholesterol is called the "good cholesterol" because HDL cholesterol particles prevent atherosclerosis by extracting cholesterol from the artery walls and disposing of them through the liver. Thus, high levels of LDL cholesterol and low levels of HDL cholesterol (high LDL/HDL ratios) are risk factors for atherosclerosis, while low levels of LDL cholesterol and high levels of HDL cholesterol (low LDL/HDL ratios) are desirable and protect against heart disease and stroke.

Total cholesterol is the sum of LDL (low density) cholesterol, HDL (high density) cholesterol, VLDL (very low density) cholesterol, and IDL (intermediate density) cholesterol.

Yoga

Hello friends,
Few days back i was interested to know about Yoga so i have collected some information about Yoga. I have collected this information from many sites and have prepared a gist of information about Yoga. I hope you all will find it useful..

You need to warm up your body before performing yoga. So one of the warm up exercise we can perform is Surya Namaskar.  Surya Namaskar is the physical base of the practice links together twelve asanas in a dynamically performed series.  These asanas are ordered so that they alternately stretch the spine backwards and forwards.

Surya Namaskara, like most yogasanas must be performed only on an empty stomach. Therefore there must be a gap of at least two hours after eating and before performing the namaskara. It is generally practiced in the morning before breakfast or in evening.[4]

Surya Namaskaras are performed on a mat, not on the floor.

Yoga is a physical and mental disciplines that origanted in India. Yoga makes us feel better and helps us to get rid of many problems. Practicing the postures, breathing exercises and meditation makes you healthier in body, mind and spirit. Yoga lets you tune in, chill out, shape up -- all at the same time.

Specifically, research shows that yoga helps manage or control anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, depression, diabetes, epilepsy, headaches, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, stress and other conditions and diseases.

It also helps us to

Improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina
Reduces stress and tension
Boosts self esteem
Improves concentration and creativity
Lowers fat
Improves circulation
Stimulates the immune system
Creates sense of well being and calm.

Shavasana is practiced at the end of practice for rest

School days

In everyone's life school days will be the best days as we dont have to use our minds!!

I completed my schooling in Saint Joseph's convent literally i can say it was a girl's school.

I will start my blog with holidays as during school days all children best part would be holidays so. We would spend our holidays by practicing basketball from morning 6 to 9 in school ground.
Having Breakfast whatever mom has prepared and watch tv. Once mom starts scolding "Stop watching tv and complete your homework first" then would switch off the tv, till then even though there is nothing to see just changing the channels would give so much relax to us.

Once our school started after a long break usually 1 and half month of holidays with tons of homework that too we would complete only half of what teacher said.
One week before the school would start our shopping list would increase right from Pencil to School dress or shoes.

Once we get our new notebooks we would bind it and paste a label on it. Most importantly we would select labels which will be most attractive over the binding :)
By 7th standard my parents bought me cycle to ride as they considered that i have grown up and able to manage myself. My home was located close to our school so i was used to go by walk with friends or sometimes alone.

Once i entered school i was happy that im meeting my friends at the same time i was sad too as my teacher would ask why i have not completed my homework.. :(
Before entering the class we had to do prayer in the ground with all our schoolmates right from LKG to 10th standard. This is the place where i was used to pray God that "Please God let teacher not ask about homework".

Again in line we had to enter our respective classes without making any noise by tying our hands back.

At first we would select our benches to sit with friends, and we all loved to sit with our best friends. Once our class teacher entered we all used to get up and wished her saying in a rhythm " GOOD MORNING TEACHER " . Our class would start with a small prayer.

Our Father in heaven,
holy be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of troubles
and deliver us from evil.
- Amen.
Most of our friends would not come school on the first day of school reopen. After 2 days our class would start by first selecting the bench leader, class leader. Class teacher was used to make us stand in a line according to height-wise and would make us to sit four in a bench, in which one will be a bench leader.

Class leader would be chosen by us through voting system. All bench leader were used to collect homework of bench-mates and give it to class leader. Finally class leader to class teacher. Thus our school days would start with class teacher, class leader, bench leader.
Three tests follwed by midterm exam again followed 15 days of holiday. What a life !! Same routine only thing is we would have promoted to next standard... !

This is a period where we are not much worried as we all know marks doesnt really matter to get promoted to next standard.. Life actually begins once we complete our 10th standard. So be cool till you are in 10th degree later you have to work hard to find your destiny and your future

First day in Chennai

I had to join LnT Infotech as a software engineer located in Chennai by Nov 3rd 2008.So i left bengaluru on Nov 1st morning by 11AM which was saturday. My colleagues and friends had given a bad opinion about Chennai as humudity will be very high and people over there dont know English sometimes it will be difficult to deal with people. Was little tensed as i had to travel alone to a new place. So with so many confusions and questions in mind i finally reached Chennai.

I had brought lot of luggage which was not possible for me to carry alone. During the journey i met one gal who was a tamilian and most importantly who was knowing english. Once Chennai train station arrived she helped me by getting my luggage down and she left. The kuli's over there started asking in Tamil "100 rupees mam ill carry"!. Within a second they carried all my luggage and kept walking. I was dumb at that moment and dont know what to say in Tamil.

Somehow again i met the same gal she told them in Tamil that "no need we will carry the luggage".
Thank god i got my luggage back and she helped me to carry luggage till taxi. With little relaxation gave address of apartment to taxi driver and was busy looking out of the window. But later again i was in tension whether this driver will take me to the correct address or not !!???

Even though charge in my mobile was NIL started acting as if im talking with my friend saying "yeah im coming in another 10 or 20 mins to Manapakkam". Finally driver brought me to correct address and helped me by keeping luggage inside the apartment. Later my friend said that the people over here are very good compared to bengaluru. Hats off to Chennai people.
As i was tried that day slept nicely. Next day unpacked my luggage and by evening with some of my colleagues bought a new Airtel connection.

November 3rd

Got up early by 6AM . Took bath and wore one of my favorite dress as i had to meet new people in the office. As instructed i met Aswathaman whom i thought is a old person but he was young i guess it was his first company to work as an HR.

Later they said me to wait in one room to give introduction. Finally i met Hitachi department head by 4PM who was a Kannadiga..!! This was my experience of first day in Chennai and first day in Chennai LnT Infotech office

Rain

Rain - Once u hear to this word some feel like dancing,Some feel like listening to songs and some feel like having coffee..!

Once i hear to word rain i have some memories which comes to my mind.
While i was working in Chennai if it was raining heavily then we myself,Aparna and Deepa would take a break to have a coffee and share gossips/problems. Almost all teammates would be out of the building it would be like an election meet up.

If we were in apartment then myself, subhashini,Reshmi and Aparna would prepare Maggi noodles and watch an horror english movie. Those days were really memorable.

While i was working in Bengaluru we had an option of using ear phones. So those days were memorable too as i was used to listen romantic songs by having coffee..
The lyrics of kannada which were written so beautifully along with that a sip of hot coffee infront of the window where we can feel the rain and the dew drops which were on the Window glass made me to feel like as if im in heaven.. :)

Even during my childhood days if it was raining then one would go to bring kara menshinakayi :) a perfect match when it will be raining..

My initial stay in US

We landed in USA on January 1st of 2010!
The entire journey from India to USA was on January 1st. January 1st by 4AM we both had to leave India to start new life together. My first flight was in British Airways..

I dont know why i was not that excited even though it was my first flight experience. Reason might be as Raghu slept nicely during flight journey as he was tired and he dint sleep the day before we left India.

We landed in Newark Airport which is in New jersey. The first person i met in US was Asuthosh- my hubby's friend. With Asuthosh Raghu's PM(KG) also had come. We stayed in one of my husband's friend house as had to shift to our new home after 2 days.

After 2 days of stay had to go South Amboy where my first home was situated..
As we came over there house we booked was not available so had to stay in one of my husband's friend house. By Monday we entered into our home..

Tuesday as usual my husband got up and he had to go office so he left by 8AM. I had to spend the whole day without any media except luggage from India..

While going to Office my husband had given me ipod to listen to songs so i was happy with that as one thing i cant live without was music so somehow i could pass the time but the charge was very low.

In ipod few new album were there and first song I listened in US was "Ale ale aleo" from Savari movie. It was so good to listen but was scared about charge. Felt like listening the same song again and again. I played but charge was gone. :( it was still 10AM. Nothing to do ,nothing to listen.little scared about place with this kind of mixed thinking thought to go for a sleep so that i can waste another 2 to 3 hours.

Somehow i spend my day arranging things and finally my husband arrived early by 7PM so i was bit relaxed.
